Privacy, in plain language.
SipSmart is local-first. There is no required account, no advertising, and no sale of personal data.
Data stored on your device
SipSmart stores drink entries, reflections, urge sessions, goal history, and preferences on your device by default. Apple device backups may include app data according to your own iCloud backup settings.
Widgets and Apple Watch
The widget reads only a coarse weekly summary—totals, target, and alcohol-free days—from a shared on-device container. It avoids alcohol wording unless you enable it. The Watch companion exchanges quick-log entries and the same weekly summary with your paired iPhone.
Apple Health
Health saving is optional and off by default. When enabled, SipSmart writes each entry’s standard-drink estimate to Alcoholic Beverages in Apple Health, updates it after edits, and removes it after deletion. SipSmart requests write access only and never reads Health data. SipSmart never uploads Apple Health data to any server and never shares it with a third party. Turning the setting off stops future writes. “Delete all local data” also removes records SipSmart wrote to Health.
iCloud
Cloud sync is optional and off by default. If enabled, Apple syncs the app database through your private iCloud account. SipSmart does not operate a separate sync service.
Coaching
Reviewed offline guidance sends nothing. Remote coaching is a separate opt-in and is available only when a production service is configured. A message you submit is sent to SipSmart’s service and its AI provider to generate a reply. Individual records and notes are not attached automatically; sharing a coarse seven-day total requires separate consent. Chat history is session-only in the app.
Analytics and tracking
SipSmart contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party software development kits of any kind. We do not collect usage statistics and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Notifications and device security
Reminder schedules stay on your device and are handled by Apple. Optional app lock uses Apple’s device authentication; SipSmart does not receive or store your Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode data.
